In the northeast Appalachians (similar climate), and it's been so warm that a lot of my outside garden is still flowering.

It's the middle of fucking December.

Christmas as a cultural icon is starting to get really dystopian in a climate sense, december has historically been a time of year in which there would be snow in a significant portion of europe and north america, and the fact that its not even icy this time of year and all the christmas songs and decorations reference a time of year that will likely never exist in the same way again in my life time is so strange.

#for the record we usually would have at least THREE big snows by now and you'd still see piles of them laying around #even if the rest melted by now there'd still be clumps leftover in the fields or on the roadsides from the plows #my yard should be crunching under my feet right now and it is SOGGY from RAIN #i'm checking the bloody nws river gauge because of the intense RAINFALL we had in DECEMBER???#we used to only have rain this bad in hurricane season & towards the middle of april; now it's year round #on our local news there was a gentleman talking about how his basement (UP on a hill) has flooded 10 times in the last 15 years #4 of those floods were in 2023 #climate crisis #shut up ace #i lost the thread i was chasing
